Session Policies & Guidelines
Welcome to Soundfly Connect! We connect musicians and aspiring musicians with vetted professionals for focused learning sessions to get them closer to their goals.
Students are here to learn. Coaches are here to help. To set pairings up for success, we’ve devised some specific guidelines to support healthy learning relationships. These are our expectations for students and for our coaches.
-
1.
Be respectful at all times.
Our coaches are real people. So are our students. Treat each other with respect at all times. We do not tolerate harassment, intimidation, bullying, or offensive comments, and reserve the right to end a session immediately in the case of a serious complaint from either party.
-
2.
Show up on time.
Calls should start on time. We instruct coaches to wait 15 minutes at the start of a call before bailing. If a student ghosts their coach, they miss that week. If a coach shows up more than 15 minutes late or misses a call, they'll schedule a make up.
-
3.
Give advance warning.
Give each other at least 24 hours' notice whenever a change needs to happen, especially to the schedule. If a student cancels a call with less than 24 hours' notice, they risk losing that call, at the coach's discretion.
-
4.
Use “Catch Up Weeks” as needed.
Life happens. If you need to hit pause on a session, give your partner advance notice. We allow students to take 2 Catch Up Weeks in a One Month Intensive session, and 1 Catch Up Week in a Two Week Sprint session. If a coach needs to use a Catch Up Week or cancel a call, it doesn't count toward the student's total, and they will schedule a make up.
-
5.
Keep it professional.
Our coaches are amazing and here to help you learn and grow. They're not your new BFF, and they're not expected to meet up in person, collaborate on your track, engage in long text exchanges, do work for free, or open their contact list for you. Similarly for students. Let's remember what we're here for.
-
6.
Do the work.
These sessions are most helpful when everyone is prepared. Learning happens best in action. As a student, you'll grow more if you do the work, and send it to your coach at least a day before your next call. As a coach, we expect you to show up to the call having reviewed any assignments in advance.
-
7.
Be respectful about recording.
Coaches may record a call to share with the student afterwards. These are great, and helpful to revisit. Coaches should check with students before recording to make sure it's cool, and neither party should share recordings with anyone else without permission.
-
8.
Keep communication reasonable.
Students are welcome to email their coaches, and vice versa, but please allow up to two days for a response. Our coaches are professional musicians; that's what makes them so good!
Sometimes coaches and students find it easier to use WhatsApp or text. We're not against that, with prior agreement from both parties and except for students under 18 (see below), but be reasonable with expectations. Don't start spamming each other with messages unrelated to the session.
-
9.
Adjust sessions as needed.
If a session isn't going to plan or feels like it's not working out, talk to each other about it and adjust the plan! There's no point wasting each other's time, and often a small tweak in direction or communication style can make a big difference. (For example, sometimes a coach might be too standoffish with feedback for fear of hurting a student's feelings. In those cases, a student could ask for more direct feedback and have a better session.)

10.
Keep it on Soundfly.
We put a lot of work into making these sessions awesome! We appreciate you honoring that by keeping your relationship and all future sessions on Soundfly, and making all bookings and payments through the site. That way we can continue to serve and help you!
If help is needed: Email support@soundfly.com. We’re here to help set these sessions up for success. If anything feels off or either party needs help, reach out for support.
Refund policy: We allow refunds for the full amount up to the start of the first call of a session. Once a session is underway and the first call has happened, we will consider partial refund requests on a case-by-case basis.
Age policy: We don’t accept students under the age of 13. Students between the ages of 13 and 17 require permission from a parent or guardian. Have your parent or guardian email support@soundfly.com for permission. For a session with a student ages 13 to 17, we require the parent or guardian to remain on every email, and we don’t allow text or WhatsApp communication. We also require parental permission before recording a call.
